Puppy Classes

At Learning to Dog we believe that every puppy deserves the best start in life. We’ve got lots of options for puppies because each puppy is an individual, and each family needs different kinds of support. If you’re not sure which service is right for you, contact us at 919-451-4226.

LEARNING TO PUPPY 101

Learn the basics and enhance your socialization program using positive reinforcement. We’ll also give you tips for dealing with common puppy behaviors like nipping and potty training. You’ll have the option to earn your AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy title.

WHO? For puppies 8-14 weeks old at the start of class

COST: 6 weeks of group classes $205. Your tuition includes weekly office hours and our puppy handbook.

For puppies who have graduated from Learning to Puppy 101, or older puppies who are just starting their training. We’ll work on age-appropriate exercises for leash walking, attention, recall, and more!

WHO? For puppies 15 weeks to 20 weeks old at the start of class

COST: 6 weeks of classes $205. Your tuition includes weekly office hours and our puppy handbook.

middle school

Early adolescence can be a challenging time for both you and your puppy. You’ll learn about what to expect from your dog as they move through this developmental period. Training games will be introduced to keep your dog engaged.

WHO? For puppies 6-12 months at the start of class

COST: 5 weeks of classes $175

PUPPY SOCIALIZATION CLUB

This class is designed to provide you with the essential tools and expert coaching to ensure your puppy’s socialization journey is a success. Please read more about the importance of socialization here. We’re devoted to helping you get it right! See the topics we will cover here.

WHO? Puppies aged 8 weeks to 6 months.

COST: $35/session or 4 sessions for $125

PUPPY SCHOOL

If you would like some help with your socialization and training, or need some help providing enrichment to prevent the puppy ‘witching hour’, you can drop your puppy off on weekdays (Monday-Thursday) to work with a certified trainer.

WHO? Puppies 8 weeks to 6 months.

Learning to Dog Training Club

Join us for weekly drop-in classes to learn new skills or bring your training to the next level. Your dog benefits from the mental stimulation and dedicated time with you! WALK WITH ME

A relaxing walk with our dogs is one of the great joys in life! Learn the foundation skills you need to make your your walks more enjoyable for both you and your dog.

WHO? For dogs 6 months and older

COST: 4 weeks of classes $140

Prerequisite: Learning to Puppy, Middle School, or call 919-451-4226 for instructor’s permission

SAY HI! POLITE GREETINGS

This class will help you and your dog build the skills needed for polite greetings. We’ll train several greeting routines and then help you customize a routine that makes the most sense for you and your dog.

WHO? For dogs 6 months and older

COST: 4 weeks of classes $140

TRICKS FOR CLICKS

Training tricks provides physical and mental exercise, and enhances training of the ‘basics’.  We will be using clicker training in this class to enhance communication between you and your dog.  We will decide as a class what tricks we’d like to focus on.

WHO? For dogs 6 months and older

COST: 4 weeks of classes $140

Prerequisite: Learning to Puppy, Learning to Dog, or instructor’s permission.

 

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN (CGC)

This class will help you prepare for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exam, focusing on 10 basic skills to ensure your dog is well mannered in your community around people and other dogs. Many therapy dog programs require CGC certification. 

WHO? For dogs 6 months and older

COST: 6 weeks of classes $215

Prerequisite: Learning to Puppy, Learning to Dog, or instructor’s permission.
