Group Classes in Durham

Group classes are a great way to start your training in a supportive environment! Our in-person group classes are small, focused on doing rather than listening to lectures, and expertly designed by an educator to set you and your puppy up for success! Join us!

  • Advanced registration and proof of vaccination are required before attending an in-person puppy classes
  • We follow the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) recommendations to ensure your puppy gets the socialization and training they need in a safe environment. Please read these guidelines, found here.

LEARNING TO PUPPY 101

Learn the basics using positive reinforcement. Training exercises will include sit, down, stay, attention, drop it, and more! We will also give you tips and strategies for dealing with common puppy behaviors like nipping. Our small classes ensure that you and your puppy get the individual coaching you need!

WHO? For puppies 8-14 weeks old at the start of class

COST: 6 weeks of classes $240

For puppies who have graduated from Learning to Puppy 101, or older puppies who are just starting their training. We’ll work on exercises such as loose leash walking, calm greetings, and attention in distracting environments, and help you prepare for the teenager phase of your puppy’s life.

WHO? For puppies 15 weeks to 7 months old at the start of class

COST: 6 weeks of classes $240

PUPPY Play Group

Do you know how to figure out if your puppy is learning good play manners? Can you tell when your puppy is having a good time, is overwhelmed, or needs help taking a break? Join us for puppy play groups where we will help you bring out the very best in your puppy’s play skills!

WHO? For puppies 8-16 weeks old enrolled in Learning to Puppy 101, Puppy Preschool, or our Perfect Puppy Program

COST: $20/session

BEYOND PUPPY CLASSES

  • The classes listed below are for dogs 6 months and up
  • Advanced registration and proof of vaccinations are required before attending an in-person class
  • Some of these classes have prerequisites – please check to make sure you meet them before enrolling

Please note: our group classes are not appropriate for dogs that show reactivity to other dogs or people (barking, lunging, growling, snapping) when on leash. If you are not sure if your dog should attend a group class, please contact us for help!

LEARNING TO DOG

Have you just adopted a new dog and need to get your training  started? Or maybe you need some help brushing up on basic obedience? Have an adolescent dog who seems to have forgotten everything you’ve taught them? This class will focus on the use of positive reinforcement to teach behaviors such as attention, stay, leash manners, leave it, and more!

WHO? For dogs 9 months and older

COST: 6 weeks of classes $240

Prerequisite: None

TRICKS FOR CLICKS

Training tricks provides physical and mental exercise, and enhances training of the ‘basics’.  We will be using clicker training in this class to enhance communication between you and your dog.  You can choose to earn your AKC Novice Trick Dog title through this class!

WHO? For dogs 6 months and older

COST: 5 weeks of classes $199

Prerequisite: Learning to Puppy, Learning to Dog, or instructor’s permission.

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN

This class will help you prepare for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exam, focusing on 10 basic skills to ensure your dog is well mannered in your community around people and other dogs. Many therapy dog programs require CGC certification.  Along with the skills mastered in this class,  you will work on building a bond with your best canine companion.

WHO? For dogs 6 months and older

COST: 6 weeks of classes $240

Prerequisite: Learning to Puppy, Learning to Dog, or instructor’s permission.

WALK WITH ME

Tired of being dragged around the neighborhood? Wish your dog paid better attention to you on your walks? Come and learn the foundation skills to teach your dog to walk WITH you. Class size is small so that you get the individual attention you and your dog need to be successful!

WHO? For dogs 6 months and older

COST: 5 weeks of classes $199

Prerequisite: Learning to Puppy, Learning to Dog, or instructor’s permission

Providing professional force-free, positive reinforcement training, including puppy preschool, private puppy training, puppy classes, dog training, canine good citizen, and more in Durham, and surrounding areas including Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Morrisville, Bahama, Northwest Raleigh. Our puppy classes are held in our training studio in central Durham (902 Cleveland Street).
